Take the Cannoli

I recently recommended Sarah Vowell to my mother, who is laid up at home after foot surgery. I took my own advice and read one of her books that I hadn’t previously read, Take the Cannoli. This collection of essays is her second book.

I liked this book a lot. It helps that I’ve heard Sarah on This American Life and enjoyed The Partly Cloudy Patriot as an audiobook read by the author. I read the stories to myself in her voice, with what I imagined to be her inflections, pauses, and emphases. So it felt like I was reading a radio show. Crazy!

I liked The Partly Cloudy Patriot and Assassination Vacation more than Take the Cannoli, but these are later books and good for her for improving each time.

Recommended! Heck, read all of her books.

And oh! oh! new books from Sarah Vowell and David Sedaris are coming out this year! Wheeeeee!
