I've heard that I should read this book before, but didn't pick it up till my husband brought it home from the library. Even then, I didn't show much interest until I heard the author, Malcolm Gladwell, on an episode of This American Life. He was telling an unrelated story, but he was hilarious. I was listening as I walked the dog, and I thought, "Wait... don't we have a book by him at home?"

So I finally got through it! It's very interesting and held my attention, even though I often start drooling with a vacant look in my eye when I read non-fiction books (that aren't personal essays).

I probably didn't get everything out of the book I should have, but three main take-aways:

1) A professor at UT, Mark Alpert, who I took a class from and worked with when I was staff there, he's in this book! Apparently he's a market Maven. It really is a small world. Ok, so that's maybe not a take-away so much as something like seeing a famous person on the street.

2) My kids are totally watching Sesame Street and Blue's Clues, even if it kills me. Assuming that Blue's Clues is still on the air when I have toddlers. Sesame Street supposedly increases students' learning abilities even into high school, and Blue's Clues is supposed to be an even better learning tool than Sesame Street.

3) I am no maven. I'm always recommending stuff to people, but I don't think anyone besides my mom listens to me, and let's face it, she's just humoring me.

I highly recommend The Tipping Point.
