I am not sure how long I've been working on this cross stitch project, but I think it must be at least 8 years, if not longer. I can remember working on it when my sister and I shared an apartment, and that was back in 1999-2000.
The problem with intricate cross stitch patterns is that they require a gazillion hours of work and they get boring fast. So, I tend to dedicatedly work on it for a few weeks, put it away with the intention of picking it up again soon, and then poof! it's 3 years later.
I am determined to finish this in time to do something with it for Christmas, since it's clearly a Christmas angel. I'd like to give it to my stepmother-in-law as a gift, but I don't know what to do with it. Frame it? Attach it to a pillow (given that I don't know how to sew nor own a sewing machine)? I ask you, my friends and family, what to do with this. Oh, and let's not forget that the piece of cloth I'm sewing on is maybe too small for the pattern - at best, I will work to within a few squares from the edge, so there's not a lot of margin on this thing.
