So, my brilliant husband came up with the idea that I like reading so much, and I like talking about what I read too, so maybe I should start a blog to review these books. And, voila!
I originally was going to title this blog "Sitting at Madame de Borodino's Tables," because it seemed witty to pick some obscure literary reference as the name. But... what the heck URL would I pick with that? madamedeborodino.blogspot.com? Who would type all that, or even spell it right? Chances are, I wouldn't even remember it! In case you're wondering, Madame de Borodino's is one of the many locations Becky stayed at during her social descent in Vanity Fair, and the tables included gambling tables. So it was supposed to allude to the fact that often, picking up a book is a gamble.
Then the name was going to be "Outside of a Dog," from Groucho Marx's quote "Outside of a dog, a book is men's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." Turns out that's already taken - more than once!
In desperation, I almost titled this "Beth's Book Blog," but common sense and my husband prevailed; that was clearly the complete opposite of an obscure literary reference, not to mention far from witty.
So, finally, here we are with "Books Tasted." The quote:
Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested. - Francis Bacon
Here's to doing all three.
