In March 2004, I started a book club with some friends. Our goal: read some classics. Not just modern new stuff that's easy to talk about, but some tough cookies, things to sink our teeth into. Ok, ok, maybe I strong-armed my friends. I was an English major back in college, and while I missed class discussions, I did not miss the classes themselves. Papers, tests, homework? Blech! So to fill my craving, I started the book club. I'm not sure whether my friends were more enticed by the idea of reading and discussing classic literature or by the idea of eating a smorgasbord of mouth-watering food once every 6 weeks. Calories don't count at book club, right?
A small disclaimer - we did agree to read more "modern" books now and again to break things up.
But I am not going to sit down and write a bunch of long reviews of books I barely remember. Instead, I'll be writing snippets -- 1-2 sentence book reviews, starting from the first book we read back in March 2004. I'll be posting the reviews in yearly chunks.
Hey book club friends! My memory is a little blurry with some of these. Please comment with your thoughts!
