Books Tasted - Everything bookly (and a few other things)

About Me

I'm just one person in a vast world of readers who happens to have the technology* to have her own book review site, instead of adding to the gazillion reviews already on Amazon, etc. My only qualifications are a love of reading, a loving sister-in-law who pesters me to post, and an English BA. Sometimes I get bored of just posting book reviews and post projects I'm working on, mostly craft stuff.

* completely thanks to my wonderful husband without whom I'd just use blogspot.

Review: Misfortune

beth — Tue, Jul 24 2007

Delia loaned me this book (as she often does) and I'm so glad she did! Wesley Stace's Misfortune is like a cross between Charles Dickens and traditional fairytales - you know, the scary ones with child kidnappings and blood and stuff. Misfortune is about a foundling baby boy raised as a girl by a mentally unstable (but not in a scary axe murderer way) lord in 19th-century England.

Review: The Namesake

beth — Tue, Jul 24 2007

Ok, so I read this forever ago (June book club) and I barely remember it now. So this may be a short review.

Review: All the Presidents' Pastries

beth — Fri, Jun 1 2007

I can't believe it's been a month since I posted. Sadly, there's no good excuse - I just plain wasn't reading much during this time.

Review: Henry and Clara

beth — Mon, Apr 30 2007

Over the weekend, I finished reading Henry and Clara, a historical fiction novel by Thomas Mallon. Henry Rathbone and Clara Harris were invited by the Lincolns to share the Presidential box at Ford's Theatre the night that Lincoln was assassinated. Henry and Clara have their own dramatic story outside of this historic event. Clara's father and Henry's mother married when they were in early puberty.

Review: Moll Flanders

beth — Mon, Apr 16 2007

We had book club yesterday. I literally finished this book minutes before I had to walk out my door. Go me!

As Delia pointed out, part of the difficulty in reading the book is the lack of chapters. When there's no stop points, for some reason it gets harder to pick the book! Weird.

What to Read Next?

beth — Thu, Apr 5 2007

Hey, I don't know what to read when I finish my book club book! I mean, I have to polish off Tom Jones before it's due in May and I'll have a new book club book to read soon, but meanwhile... what should I be reading? Here's what I'm tinkering with. Please add your suggestions!

Snippet Reviews: Book Club Readings 2006 & 2007

beth — Tue, Apr 3 2007

Since it's so early in 2007, I'm throwing the 2007 books in with 2006. I'm just crazy that way!

Snippet Reviews: Book Club Readings 2005

beth — Thu, Mar 29 2007

Continuing with the short reviews for our book club books:

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, Susanna Clarke - Critics said it was an adult Harry Potter. We all agreed it took far too long to get interesting and was nowhere near as fun, interesting, or enjoyable as the HP series.

Do you want to contribute to Books Tasted?

beth — Sat, Mar 24 2007

Hey friends, would you like to contribute reviews to Books Tasted?

I am slow on the uptake and just discovered how to turn this blog into a "team blog," meaning that others can also post as bloggers. Wooooo!

I know that there is at least one friend who'd like to post her own reviews. If you would also like to post reviews, email me (if you're a friend, you should know how to contact me) and I'll add you as an author.

Cool, no?

Review: You Suck

beth — Sat, Mar 24 2007

At the same time as I was reading Maurice, I was listening to the audio book You Suck: A Love Story, by Christopher Moore. Okay, not at the exact same time on the clock, but during the same week and same days. Sheesh, you don't have to be so exact.
